Extension areas to get water

02 Jul 2014

Water Utilities Corporation will connect water at Extensions six, seven and eight in Palapye, says MP for Palapye Mr Moiseraele Goya.

Addressing a kgotla meeting in Palapye on Monday June 30, Mr Goya said government has allocated P800 million to WUC to undertake water connections in Mahalapye and Palapye.

He said in Palapye the three areas will benefit from that project adding that this will help address acute shortage of water in those areas. The remaining extensions nine and ten, he said will be connected later.

Mr Goya further said the government through Ministry of Lands and Housing is piloting infrastructure development in Metsimotlhabe and Palapye. The project which is undertaken at Extension 11 in Palapye, will pave way to allocation of 3159 plots of different uses, he said.

Under that project, he said government will provide necessary services such as water, electricity and roads prior to allocation so that they do not hamper development of plots.

In addition, he said Palapye sub land board has identified 672 in-fills which will ultimately be allocated. Briefing residents about projects in Palapye, Mr Goya said the government has allocated P600 million for the North South Carrier II project. The work entails the construction of water pipes from Moralane to Palapye, he added.

The project, he said is done in different components but is ultimately expected to extend to the southern part of this country. He also stated that the government has allocated P25million for the construction of the new Palapye bus rank.

Regarding power supply, he said the government will carry out a number of projects that will ensure sufficient power supply in the country. These projects, he said include among others the refurbishment of the old Morupule A power station, completion of Morupule B power station and construction of Morupule C power station.

However, he urged farmers to prepare for the next planting season reminding them that the government will only assist farmers who use modern planting methods such as row planting.

MP Goya also encouraged them to vote in the upcoming general elections. Commenting, residents complained about delay in plot allocations as well as allocating plots on unserviced land.

One resident, Mr Esau Kwenaetsile applauded the government for the infrastructure development project at Extension 11, adding that the land should be serviced prior to allocation.

Mr Sebina Sebina on the other hand raised concern over delayed allocation of plots at Maothokgonyane, complaining that the issue has been pending for about 14 years.

In response, Palapye Sub-land board secretary, Mr Boikago Maswabi said due to financial constraints, the government is unable to service all the available land prior to allocation of plots.

He said the land board has been faced with a serious challenge of shortage of land hence the decision to identify in-fills within the village. Allocations will be conducted at Extension 11 after the completion of the infrastructure development project, he said.

Regarding allocation of plots at Maothokgonyane, Mr Maswabi said the land board intended to start allocations in that area last September, but the process was halted by the council for some reasons, adding that allocations will be done this financial year. Ends
