01 Jul 2014
Kgosi Gunny Moses of Monarch Customary Court has urged residents to prioritise their health.
Kgosi Moses said, during a recent Botsogo Pitso, that healthy living began at home and stressed that a clean surrounding, healthy food and healthy way of living were fundamental to a healthy mind and body.
He hinted that hazardous habits such as smoking and drinking in front of children could consequently lead them to imitate their parents, something that was bad for families and the community at large.
He also decried shortage of drugs at the local clinic and also urged residents to form health awareness clubs and to encourage their children to do safe male circumcision (SMC) to help curb the spread of HIV.
The traditional leader urged the residents to take care of home-based care patients and treat them with respect.
A Cluster Matron at Jubilee Clinic, Ms Dikabelo Mereyotlhe said the main reason for the Pitso was to bring their services to the people. She said residents should work hand in hand with health officials and give them feedback in order to enable them to improve their services.
Moreover, Ms Kebonye Bagai, a nurse at Jubilee Mental Health ward said they offered, among other services, counseling and seeing patients who come for their regular check-ups, as well as admit those requiring observation.
She added that patients with critical mental illnesses were referred to S’brana Psychiatric Hospital in Lobatse for further management, noting that they also visited schools to teach students about mental health.
One of the residents, Ms Rosinah Lekgaba, decried long queues and shortage of staff at the clinic, stressing that they needed a medical doctor since their population had increased and urged health officials to conduct home visits to check on patients. ENDS
