North West region JCE results deplorable

01 Jul 2014

Junior secondary schools in the North West region should work harder to improve the deplorable Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) results in the district.

Speaking at the regional excellence awards at Thamalakane Lifelong Centre in Maun recently, regional director in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, Mr Acronews Maseko said the JCE results in the region were deplorable compared to Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) and General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE).

However, Mr Maseko commended the recipients of the regional excellence awards, adding that the excellent results showed it was not all gloom and doom for Ngamiland.

Senior medical officer at Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital, Dr David Tlhabano , said the awards should be a stimulant for students to work harder. He encouraged the students that what mattered was not where one came from but where one was going.

Form Five leaver, Ramasu Ramasu got awards for best student in Maun as well as the North West region, receiving a certificate and P1 000 as well as another certificate and P2 000 respectively.

The overall Junior Secondary award went to Paul Motshidisi of Okavango JSS, winning P1 500 and a certificate while the overall winner in PSLE went to Precious Sexhikao of Kelekele primary in the Gumare sub-region, receiving P1 000 and a certificate.

Letsholathebe Memorial School was the best performing school with 87 per cent pass rate, followed by Sankoyo and Kgosietsile from Mababe with 86 per cent each, while Botswelelo followed with 84 per cent. Letsholathebe also received a prize for most improved school in the region as well as the best school in the region award. ENDS
