26 Jun 2014

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has received 745 blankets from Mr and Ms Mahomed Dada which will be distributed to vulnerable groups.

The blankets will be dispersed to Mpule Kwelagobe centre, Cheshire Foundation, Kgalagadi District, Dukwi refugee camp, Pudologong and Centre for the deaf.

Receiving the blankets on June 25 in Gaborone, Minister of Government and Rural Development, Mr Peter Siele said this was an indication that the ministry was committed to serving and caring for its citizens especially the vulnerable groups.

“As Botswana approaches the 2016 milestone, it has become imperative for all of us; the government and the people of Botswana to pull together our vision 2016 ideals and targets,” he said.

He said this was a generous and commendable move by the Dada family that would make a difference in the lives of the special group of our society.

The minister said government could not manage to develop and implement socially uplifting programmes alone hence the need for support and backing of the private sector.

He stated that if private sector could continue supporting government’s efforts of improving the lives of Batswana this country would be a better place to reside its entire citizens.

“As I will be giving these blankets to the district leadership and representatives to distribute to their clientele, I wish to urge you to encourage our beneficiaries to treasure this donation,” he stated.

Speaking on behalf of the Dada family, Mathias Chakalisa said the donation was a way of giving back to the community more so that it was winter season. He said the family had walked an extra mile in bringing comfort and warmth and hence aligning to the spirit of Botho.

He highlighted that the Dada family had in the past donated to Batswana and they continued maintaining the good spirit. ENDS
