In a bid to triumph at the northern President Day’s competitions, which will be held at Selebi Phikwe over the coming weekend, Francistown’s Shadows Drama Group has intensified preparations for the event.

He said they are prepared to do much better than they did in the past, saying that in 2012, they managed to obtain the third position at the competitions.

Seboko praised the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, saying the competitions keep youth off the streets enabling them to earn an income.

The assistant coordinator of the group, Tefo Tebelelo also stated that they are ready to win the competitions.

Tebelelo said, as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), they teach the community they live in about healthy ways of living such as refraining from alcohol and substance abuse as well as promoting initiatives such as safe male circumcision (SMC).

A group member, Lesego Thaolo said they spread information to the community through road shows and further explained that they intend to form a children’s club through which they will unearth fresh talent.

Meanwhile, Tlamelo Keborwele, a finance officer at Bopaganang Basha Youth Centre commended the group for having impacted positively on the lives of residents of Monarch.

She said the group disseminates critical information about the spread of HIV, the dangers of multiple concurrent partnerships (MCPs) and the importance of SMC.

Keborwele said since Monarch location has high rates of unemployment, the group has implored many young people to use their acting talent to earn some income.
