Maposa in talks with United FC

24 Jun 2014

Gaborone United goalkeeper, Noah Maposa, is in South Africa negotiating a possible move to the Kimberly-based side, United FC.

Maposa was identified by United’s coach, Lesley Notsi, during last year’s COSAFA cup played in Zambia. Notsi, who was Lesotho’s head coach during the time, saw a lot of potential in the GU goalkeeper.

Thus, when he made a move to the Vultures earlier this year, Maposa was one of the names that sparked his interest. His belief in youngsters was one of the reasons why he was brought to the club after his success over the Under 20 Lesotho side in 2011.

Maposa, 29, is still in his prime days and might become one of the new young players to refurnish Notsi’s team.

Maposa had a short spell with South African side Bay United in 2010/11 season under the guidance of Major David Bright and was reunited with him at Gaborone United upon his return to Botswana.

Last season, he helped Gaborone United to finish in the third spot and the year before he helped them to win the Mascom Top 8 cup.

Gaborone United secretary general, Herbet Letsebe has confirmed that they released Maposa to South Africa to begin talks with United FC.  Letsebe said they had reserved the foreign player spot for a goalkeeper in case Maposa’s talks with United FC became successful.

“If Maposa manages to complete the move to South Africa, then GU will need a capable goalkeeper to replace him in the coming season,” he said.

Contacted for comment, Maposa confirmed that indeed he was in South Africa in talks with United FC. “I just arrived yesterday (Monday) so if everything goes well you will be the first to know,” he said.

Maposa left Botswana on Monday (June 23) morning and he is expected to have finished the negotiations with United FC by Friday (June 27). ENDS
