Presidents Day competitions gain momentum

Various groups and individuals converged in Serowe to compete and book themselves space to partake in the finals of the President’s Day Arts competitions scheduled for Gaborone next month.

About 420 artists from as far as Masunga, Tonota, Francistown, Mahalapye, amongst others, came to try their luck in the contemporary music competition in Serowe over the weekend.

They competed in four categories of back track, live band, DJ, and upcoming artiste.

The competitions started at a very low note with the first few individuals and groups not lighting the much filled Serowe college multi-purpose hall but later gained momentum.

Dressed in beautiful outfits, groups and individual delivered their best, and one could just muse over the much talent Batswana have. First, was the upcoming artist category; where almost 100 people performed the whole day.

The category included gospel artistes amongst them Big Nose, Action FM, Sithole, Chawa Tabokwa, Gift, Mpho Mpotseng and Moiseraele.

They dished out their best gospel tunes, which however, did not take them anywhere as none of them qualified for the next stage.

There was traditional music, hip hop, and disco and kwasa kwasa in this category and all artistes performed their best.

Dipetsane from Serowe, Moisaraele from Mahalapye and Madala from Francistown got positions one, two and three respectively.

They will represent the Serowe region in the President’s Day Art competitions in Gaborone next month. 

The Serowe region is made up of the Central region, North East and Francistown.

On the live band category, also groups battled with everything they had to get a chance to go to Gaborone. Bana-bana baNtogwa from Francistown emerged the winners followed by Mazgada.com also from Francistown and Mabesi Afro Band from Serowe respectively.

Many DJs like DJ Ronyl from Mmatshumo, DJ Cue B from Francistown, DJ K1 from Bobonong, and DJ Tswaks from Francistown also tried their luck. Disc Jockey, Truu followed by DJ Bieps and DJ Slim won positions one, two and three respectively. The back track category was scooped by Kale Flow followed by Brighton Gospel and Diphotsana respectively.  ENDS
