Tati mine donates house in Matopi
22 Jun 2014
Tati Nickel Mining Company (TNMC) has donated a fully furnished two and half house valued at P95 000 to the Toteng family in Matopi village.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony the mine’s managing director, Mr Sergey Steshenko said the funds were raised through the annual sponsored charity walk. He explained that the main objective of the walk was to raise funds that could be used to assist in small projects in the villages close to the mine.
So far, he said five houses have been built in Matshelagabedi, Matsiloje and Matopi using the funds raised from the walk since its introduction in 2010. Mr Steshenko said habitable accommodation gives a family an innate right to be valued by the society.
He noted that his company was not only concerned about its employees and making profit but believes that every human being deserves habitable shelter because a home was a place that one should find comfort, priceless moments and security.
Mr Steshenko thanked TNMC employees for voluntarily donating their leave days in support of the manager’s charity walk. He also applauded the corporate world for their sponsorship in making the charity walk to grow and be successful.
The North East District deputy council secretary, Mr Mpho Morapedi appreciated TNMC saying their gesture was in line with the Presidential housing appeal.
Kgosi Eric Moipolai of Matsiloje thanked the mine for living their slogan, “Tati Nickel cares”. He said the gesture by the mine employees indicated that they understand their corporate social responsibility role.
Kgosi Moipolai expressed concern about some members of the community who have tendencies of claiming plots after companies have developed them for people that deserved assistance.
Mr Morapedi said the donation was also a clear indication that the mine was compliant to the Vision 2016 pillar of a Compassionate, Just and Caring nation.
On behalf of the Toteng children, their grandmother, Ms Bessy Jack thanked the mine employees and appealed to them to assist others who were in need. ENDS
