North East District leaders and other key stakeholders have been informed of the need to ensure the efficient administration and management of their various organisations with the view to improving service delivery.
Speaking at a two-day stakeholder consultative workshop in Masunga on June 17 the North East District council secretary, Mr Charles Amos reminded participants that failure to strive for effective administration and management of organisations would render efficient service delivery a mere pipedream.
Mr Amos further implored them to appreciate the need to put the idea of attaining prosperity for all at the forefront of whatever they did.
He said it ought to be borne in mind that government remained concerned about the unsatisfactory social as well as economic status of some Batswana; hence the need for leaders at local levels to strategise on how best such people could be assisted.
In addition, the council secretary called on the participants to always strive for among others; ensuring effective and seamless service delivery as well as productive and participatory involvement in developmental programmes.
All these, when taken seriously, he said would result in increased levels of citizen and customer satisfaction.
For his part, the district commissioner, Mr Rapetse Mathumo emphasised the importance of government departments and other institutions working together for the good of the communities they were mandated to serve.
Mr Mathumo said it was critical to note that though they carried different mandates, they all existed to serve a common customer; hence the need for them to work jointly.
Underscoring the need to fully embrace the notion of working together as a team, he indicated that the stand-alone mentality that some leaders and organisations continued to exhibit would not serve any worthwhile purpose.
He noted that the workshop provided a much needed platform for district leaders to engage each other, consult and devise strategise on how best to deliver on their mandate.
Mr Mathumo observed that with the North East district ranking high in terms of quality and timely service delivery, it was crucial that leaders met from time to time to deliberate on better ways of attaining and even surpassing their set targets.
Welcoming guests, North East District Council (NEDC) chairperson, Mr City Kealotswe highlighted the importance of teamwork, noting that it was only through such that real progress relating to service delivery could be made.
Stressing the need for a solid team of district leaders, Mr Kealotswe who is also councilor for Mapoka ward, said teamwork would enable the district leadership to achieve more with the limited resources at its disposal.
He also implored the participants to take ownership of all the projects being carried out in their district, discouraging the habit by some leaders and organisations of distancing themselves from some projects under the pretext that they were unrelated to their mandate.
Mr Kealotswe said with leaders actually sharing a common goal of serving the public, it was important for them to understand that a setback to any one of them would in a way affect them all, while success by one would bring glory for them all. ENDS
