Dikobe calls for child development
19 Jun 2014
The acting manager for Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) Kanye branch, Mr Enock Dikobe has implored Batswana to focus on education as a fundamental aspect of child development.
Speaking at the commemoration of the Day of the African Child in Kanye on Monday, Mr Dikobe said the focus on the right to education for Botswana as well as African children was timely.
He said the African Children’s Charter recognised the right to education for all children.
Mr Dikobe said education allowed Botswana to compete in the global market. He spoke of the accessibility of education, noting that Botswana had made significant strides in the provision of free education and access for all. He cited improved access to basic education in primary and secondary schools.
Another achievement, he said, was that of cost sharing. He said the government deserved praise in the expansion of access to education for vulnerable groups of children, adding that an immense achievement in the inclusion of the girl child in the education system has been made. ENDS
