17 Jun 2014

The Rotary club of Lobatse undertook a 10km fundraising sponsored walk on June 14.

Speaking after the walk, Rotary Club president, Mr Tiyapo Ngwisanyi said their club was a charity organisation made up of volunteers from all walks of life.

He said the purpose of the walk was to raise funds that will go towards construction of a house for an identified underprivileged family in Tsopeng North ward in Lobatse.

Mr Ngwisanyi said their motive was to follow suite on the Presidents’ 5D’s, mainly embracing the second principle of dignity, whereby they intend to help the less fortunate to live dignified lives by sheltering them. He also encouraged business organisations and the community at large to be active participants in helping the less fortunate.

For his part, the CEO of BMC Dr Akolang Tombale, who was the chief walker pledged P10 000 towards the construction of the house. Dr Tombale encouraged the community to help in charity projects.

He also called for the business sectors to also help since they have the monetary muscle to elevate the lives of the underprivileged.

For his gesture, Dr Tombale received a certificate of appreciation and was bestowed with a rotary club pin by the immmediate president, Mr Erwin Happel. Mr Happel said the Rotary club is the biggest internationally recognized charity organisation with more than 1.2 million members.

He said the Rotary club pin signifies membership and it also comes with beneficial packages such as accommodation and many other treats for members of the Rotary club centres in every corner of the world. ENDS
