Church donates toiletry to students

17 Jun 2014

The Garment of Jesus International Church, on June 15, donated toiletry to students at Francistown Centre for Deaf Education.

Speaking during the donation ceremony, founder of the church, Prophet Morongwa Kukutsha, said they came to celebrate Father’s Day with the students because God at first created a man to take care of all the living things.

Prophet Kukutsha also said they came along to renew their relationship and friendship with the students so that in future they could preach using sign language.

Ms Chandabona Chida, who is the school head, appreciated the gifts and said it would be put to good use. She urged vehicle road users to be cautious and look out for students when passing by the school.

Ms Chida noted the school was a boarding facility, with 66 students. She said the learners came from the area spanning Dibete to Kasane.

She appealed to other stakeholders to assist where possible.

Ms Chida said parents complained that parents did not interact with their children while at school which amounted to neglect. She urged the parents to assist the school and to attend Parents Teachers Association (PTA) meetings.

She said another challeng was that some students did not have birth certificates or identity cards which were needed during examinations.

“Our PTA meetings do not bear any fruits because parents come in small numbers all the time. If we call the PTA meetings, of the 66 parents who should attend only eight show up,’’ she said.

Ms Chida urged parents to come to school and learn sign language so they could be able to understand their children better.

She appealed to the Ministry of Education and Skills Development to cater for the students during exanimations because they sat the same examination as ordinary learners. ENDS
