Education is power - official

16 Jun 2014

A teacher at Tshwaragano Junior Secondary School in Maun has said education is the only valuable thing that nobody can take away from an individual.

Addressing Form three students during a career fair, Mr Laust Jansen advised students to take their education seriously. “You have rights, but rights need input and responsibilities to complement them, you must work hard, listen in class and do your assignments,” he said.

He noted that students ought to make informed decisions to choose careers they were passionate about. For his part, Mr Hureva Tjavanga from Maun Senior Secondary School said all vocational training institutions and artisans required educational qualifications.

“Equip yourselves to be relevant because currently those with Degrees or even Masters are roaming the streets due to unemployment. What about those with no certificates at all?” he said.

Pastor Nonofo Mataboge from Assemblies of God encouraged the young people to make significant decisions that would bring change in their lives and ultimately their community.

Pastor Mataboge said the Ngamiland region was blessed with intelligent young people but it was unfortunate that some made wrong choices such as quitting school unnecessarily. The career fair was organised by the youth of Assemblies of God church in collaboration with Tshwaragano. ENDS
