Francistown council happy with funds allocation

16 Jun 2014

The Francistown full council has approved the over P218 million recurrent budget proposal for 2014/15 financial year.

Earlier when presenting the budget, the chairman of the finance committee, Councillor Raoboy Mpuang said the P218 million proposed budget denoted a 21 per cent increase compared to the 2013/14 revised budget.

He explained that the budget for the civil and mechanical engineering department was increased from P54 million during the last financial year to P57 million while that of council management increased by P2 million to P32 million.

Cllr Mpuang said the council’s own income was expected to be P41 669 420 mainly from rates, SHHA Service levy, interest on deposits and trade licenses.

Contributing to the presentation, Itekeng Ward Councillor, Cllr Professor Tlou said he was unhappy with the Social and Community Development (S&CD) budget as it was insufficient.

He noted that the department did not have vehicles as all its 11 vehicles had breakdowns and due to this lack of transport, the department cannot assess beneficiaries in the city.

At the same meeting, an amendment of council committee members was passed and earlier on, the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Joyce Ndove said there was need for an amendment as some councillors served in the same committees for a long time.
