The Vice President, Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe, has applauded Cresta Marakanelo Group for being concerned about the well-being of the less fortunate Batswana.

Dr Kedikilwe said this during the handover ceremony of a P100 000 worth of house to an elderly destitute person at Sese in Southern District on June 10. He said the donation would give Mr Gabaotshole Mokgatla a sense of worth, self-esteem and pride.

He said the company recently donated another house to a needy Motswana at Kalamare in the Central District, which he described as creative altruism. He added that the gesture was also a milestone in line with Vision 2016 and a response to the Presidential Housing Appeal.

The Vice President stated that since the inception of the housing appeal, 380 houses had been constructed for the needy, while 25 other houses were still under construction.

Thus, he thanked the company for contributing towards poverty alleviation and social security through the provision of decent housing for the elderly people.
He further described the donation as an endeavour towards attainment of the Vision 2016 pillar of a compassionate, just and caring nation.

“Through this vision, Botswana is strongly projecting its identity through various actions that express nationhood and patriotic sentiments,” he reiterated.

He highlighted that Botswana had been rated the best destination in the world among 112 countries by the US-based Foreign Policy magazine thanks to the contribution of companies such as Cresta.

He further said government continued to reform land administration for the benefit of all Batswana through, inter alia, the Land Administration Procedures, Capacity and Systems (LAPCAS) whose benefits included collateral use of tribal land and minimised land ownership disputes.

Hence, he encouraged Mr Mokgatla to register his plot to enjoy potential benefits.
For his part, Cresta Marakanelo Group managing director, Mr Tawanda Makaya said his company was committed to the support of Vision 2016 pillars by taking voluntary steps to improve the quality of the lives of the society where they operated.

He said the company had to date, among others, donated over P2.5 million to Masiela Trust Fund since its inception in 2001.
The occasion was attended by Kgosi Malope II of Bangwaketse, Southern district council chairman, Mr Leach Tlhomelang and other district dignitaries. ENDS
