Ghanzi district reaps from partnership

11 Jun 2014

Ghanzi District Council continues to enjoy its partnership with the Swedish municipality, as they continue to deliver on their agreements.

This was said by Ghanzi council chairperson, Mr Director Tlharese in his opening speech at the full council meeting recently. Mr Tlharese said together with the Swedish Ale Municipality, they had managed to secure funding for another project named Citizen Dialogue.

Although the project was still at infancy stage, Mr Tlharese noted their objective was to evolve a culture of fully engaging citizens in all actions as a way of realising complete democracy.

Mr Tlharese explained that with Citizen Dialogue, they would work out a program aimed at dialoging with both young and old in some settlements in the district.

“We aspire to reach to all citizenry because it is premium to acknowledge that as a council or district we undertake developments which target the community at large,” he said.

Also of note, Mr Tlharese said together with the Swedish municipality there would be another training of young people in business skills in November, following a successful one last year December.

Mr Tlharese urged the house and the community to encourage such activities, as they boosted the local business and had long term meaningful benefits to the community.

The Council Chairperson therefore urged members of the council to encourage the community to attend council sessions to give feedback on deliberations.

He said they needed to dialogue with citizens as they worked for the common good of the country.

He said it was important to note their endeavors to deliver services solely depend on continuous feedback from the community.

On other issues, Mr Tlharese urged members of the house to prepare themselves the National Development Plan (NDP) 11 and the District Development Plan (DDP) 8, as current plans would end in 2016.

He said already as a district they had drawn a District Key Policy Paper which reflected major challenges in the district.

He said the district had suggested possible solutions to the leaders for consideration and implementation.

He noted the paper was submitted to the Ministry of Local Government on May 21 this year. Ends
