Projects collapse due to negligence - officer
11 Jun 2014
Twenty-five projects under the department of social and community development in the Mahalapye Sub-district have collapsed.
Briefing councillors during the Mahalapye sub-council meeting, Mr Bakuedi Masole from the district commissioner's office said most of the projects collapsed because of negligence and lack of commitment by beneficiaries.
Mr Masole therefore urged beneficiaries to be enthusiastic about their projects, saying such projects were a way of earning a living. He said it was only through their effort that their businesses would make good returns for them.
However, he said the sub-district was facing shortage of training slots at training institutions, as such; some of the beneficiaries were yet to be trained on their different cadres. Mr Masole said some of the beneficiaries yet to be trained included those in the fields of hair dressing and food catering.
Meanwhile, he reported that the sub-district was managing a total of 404 back yard garden projects. He nonetheless said the beneficiaries were facing a challenge of high water bills and shortage of resources.
On the Youth Development Fund, Mr Masole stated that a total of P91 229.00 had been collected as opposed to P186 010.86 sub-district quarterly target.
He informed the house that the youth officials had to recoup project assets of those beneficiaries who were not servicing their loan despite making enough profits.
He said the strategy worked for them, adding that if a defaulter paid the loan, they were given back their assets. He said so far one out of three whose assets were taken had paid and had since collected his or her assets.
He urged the youth to honour their YDF loans by paying back so that other youth could benefit as well. Ends
