Beneficiary vows to expand backyard garden

11 Jun 2014

Mr Owen Sedisa of Palamaokue Ward in Machaneng has applauded government for assisting him to upgrade his garden and improve his life through the poverty eradication program.

Mr Sedisa, 44, said he was assisted to upgrade his horticultural backyard garden to a standard where he can now produce enough to satisfy big supply orders.

He previously owned a small garden that was not producing much, but was assisted with a shade net, water tank, hosepipe as well as fruit and vegetable seedlings.

“I am now confident that I will now be able to produce crops on a large scale. My garden has been modified and I have all the necessary tools to produce large crops,” he said. He expressed confidence that someday he will be a top notch horticulture producer.

Though he had to wait for two years before getting much needed assistance, Mr Sedisa said he never lost hope as he had confidence that government would deliver on its promise.

He further revealed that he was assisted in March last year and immediately started working hard on his farm to ensure that he produced the best crops.

“All I ever wanted was to be successful farmer,” he said. He added that his biggest dream is to one day own a business that produces a variety of fruits and vegetables like orange, guava, peach, tomato and spinach.

He also noted that in future he would increase his produce by introducing other fruits and vegetables in his garden. He said he wants to own a big farm in which he will produce various fruits and vegetables.

“I love what I am doing here. I will work hard to ensure that this dream becomes a reality. Believe me, when you come back next time you will find this place completely transformed,” he said.

Mr Sedisa said there are great opportunities for business in the area as most people are forced to travel 50km to Sherwood to buy fruits and vegetables.

He further revealed that before he benefited from the poverty eradication program he was employed in Ipelegeng and the cluster policing program. “These government initiatives are an opportunity for the less privileged to empower themselves and graduate from abject poverty.”Ends
