Selebi Phikwe gears up for independence celebrations
10 Jun 2014
Preparations for this year’s Independence celebrations have started in earnest in Selebi Phikwe.
The deputy district commissioner, Mr Orapeleng Modimoopelo said the intention was to organise a memorable celebration.
Mr Modomoopelo recently called a meeting of the Selebi Phikwe Urban Development Committee to start the preparation where he said the town’s goal for this year’s celebration was to restore its value which he said had been lost for the past years.
He further said to achieve the goal, the committee, which he chaired, would work with both the public servants and civil society. Mr Mogorosi Kokoro, the chief social and community development officer, said the Urban Development Committee together with the Ward Development Committee (WDC) will be responsible for the celebrations.
The National Organising Committee provided a programme list and activities, which were to be held at all districts in the country as build up to the independence day celebrations.
Some of the initiatives to be undertaken include addressing kgotla meetings to inform and update the public about the progress. Ends
