NSO rewards performers

08 Jun 2014

Deputy permanent secretary to the president, Ms Botshelo Mathuba has urged the National Strategy Office (NSO) staff to continue with their good performance in order to deliver quality service to the nation.

Speaking at the first NSO Awards on June 4 in Gaborone, Mrs Mathuba said hard work and determination pays; hence she urged NSO staff to continue excelling in their service delivery endeavour.

Ms Mathuba said NSO had a lot of younger staff members and they upheld high levels of productivity adding that it depended upon dedication, single-mindedness, commitment, passion and personal sacrifices.

She said it also took a flexible, visionary and well-rounded leadership to provide an enabling work environment and reminded them that leadership was not only top management and they should display their leadership skills wherever they were in the department’s structure.

Ms Mathuba said she had been assured that the process of identifying the recipients of the awards was based on merit guided by the principles of excellence, fairness and transparency which public service performance review process is founded on.

The deputy PSP told NSO staff that though they were gathered to be rewarded they should be mindful of wider challenges which have been identified in recent years.

She said the Botswana Quality Workforce Study conducted by the Botswana National Productivity Centre (BNPC) in 2010 also pointed to issues related to deep seated mind-set of poor work ethic as the main factor inhibiting national productivity and ultimately competitiveness. ENDS
