04 Jun 2014

Moshupa MP, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi says government is committed to improving the quality of education in the country.

Addressing a kgotla meeting in Moshupa on May 30, Mr Masisi said it was the responsibility of parents, government and teachers to mould students into responsible and good citizens, stressing that parents were the main players in taking the education of their children to another level.

He said parents should be supportive of their children’s education by ensuring that all the necessities that enabled students to thrive were available. Mr Masisi, also acting Minister of Education and Skills Development, said he would not sit back and watch students underperforming.

He said he believed that he had appropriate skills and had what it takes to get rid of education challenges. Mr Masisi emphasised that the dilapidated state of buildings in government schools was being taken care of.  He said government had partnered with the European Union in its endeavour to improve education.

He spoke of his commitment to improving education, noting that the government relied on the district commissioner’s report on the needs of schools such as food rations, stationery and all the necessities that provided a conducive environment for learning.

On other issues, he assured residents that the envisaged Moshupa hospital was on the cards, pointing out that the hospital was in NDP 10 and was expected to be constructed during the plan’s final financial year being 2016.

He said he hoped that the country’s financial status would improve so that Moshupa could get a more advanced hospital. He also briefed residents about the Electronic Evidence Bill which he said was awaiting to be signed by the President. ENDS
