Talent is a God given gift that one has to embrace and nurture, and, Mr Mooketsi Kelesweditse, turning his childhood dream of developing electronic gadgets from waste material into reality was the greatest stage ever in her life.
Born and raised in Letlhakane under the tutelage of his grandmother after his mother had passed away in 2004, the innovative 21-year-old Mr Kelesweditse was not deterred by his mother’s death.
Even after failing his Junior Certificate, the young man said it only served to intensify his resolve to advance with what he loved the most. Financial constraints could not even drive Mr Kelesweditse to abandon his dream of being innovative as he resorted to using waste material to continue with his creativity.
The innovative young man can easily turn discarded electronic gadgets into something of great use among such things as headsets, toys and cell phones.
By doing so, Mr Kelesweditse does not only showcase his creativity but also contributes towards environment cleanliness because he mostly collects what could cause damage to the surroundings.
“My intention is to develop my country’s technology through these designs and reduce unemployment by creating jobs for Batswana,” he said, adding that, for the past years, he sustained his projects well through financial support from friends and relatives.
Granted a chance, the young man intends to pursue a course in electronics. He however lamented that staying in Letlhakane has proven to be a hindrance as he does not have access to resources and exposure.
One of his incredible masterpieces developed in 2013 includes a charging headset which comprises a USB and memory card slots and an FM radio frequency receiving device.
“I am deeply concerned as we are heavily dependent on imported electronic products manufactured from other countries, it is high time we produced our own, he said.
Mr Kelesweditse‘s dream is to contribute immensely towards the growth and diversification of the economy, adding that the move will help attract investors into the country.
He said it is also important to help grow the sector of locally manufactured goods.
He is also keen on furthering his studies to improve his creativity because knowledge is power.
He said having acquired the much needed knowledge and skills he said he will be better placed to produce electronic devices that will penetrate and sustain the competitive global market. Ends
