South Africa shines in cycling

Stefan De Bod and Michelle Benson of South Africa sprung to impressive time trials in the second round of cycling events at the ongoing African Youth Games.
Stefan completed the men’s 20.8km route after an impressive 26 minutes and 51 seconds while Benson clocked 15 minutes and 18 seconds for the ladies 10km loop. Egyptian Zayed Ebtissam scooped silver for her efforts while Nigerian Sylviah Odom settled for bronze
Ivan Venter completed South Africa’s good run in cycling when he came trailing just 56 seconds behind his countryman. Salim Keddah of Algeria was rewarded with a bronze for his efforts.
Botswana’s Bonno Motlhetlhi came on position 14 out of the 16 cyclists while Matshidiso Ebudilwe came just under four seconds after her.
In the men’s category, Botswana’s Christian Kelaotswe came agonisingly eight minutes after the winner. Sethomo Masepe came on the 30th spot of the 35 cyclists who hit the route on Tuesday morning. The slowest time recorded was from Ivory Coast’s Dechanel Marvel who clocked 38mintes and 42seconds.
The riders will compete in the 100km road race before the off road race. ENDS
