The rowing team failed to make it to the semi finals after a poor start in the relay at the Gaborone Dam on May 26.

Orifile Healy and Artuno Luis Alvarez, who made the Botswana team, clocked 05:09:06 minutes on their way to suffering their first loss against Egypt. The Egyptians clocked 04:21:22 minutes against Botswana and qualified for the semi-finals.

The Egyptians joined South Africa, Tunisia and Algeria in the sem -finals, after South Africa defeated Zimbabwe, while Tunisia triumphed against Cote d’Ivoire and Algeria beat Nigeria.

South Africa won against Egypt in the first semi final while Tunisia defeated Algeria in the other semi final. In the bronze medal race, Egypt managed to trounce Algeria by clocking 03:57:04 minutes while the Algerians finished on 04:01:63 minutes.

There was a photo-finish in the final between Tunisia and South Africa, but the Tunisians edged it to be crowned gold medallist, with South Africa settling for silver and Egypt bronze. ENDS
