Search for buffaloes on

21 Feb 2013

The Department of Wildlife and National Parks in Maun has dispatched a team to Toteng to investigate reports of spotted buffaloes in the area.

Speaking in an interview, a senior wildlife officer, Mr Mpho Setlhogile said they received reports on Tuesday afternoon that buffaloes were spotted in Toteng.

The office immediately dispatched a team to investigate the reports since the animals were dangerous.

“For now I cannot verify if indeed buffaloes were spotted there as we still have to confirm the reports,” he said.

He indicated that as soon as they had any other information, they would inform the public on the way forward. Buffaloes are said to be carriers of the dreaded Foot and Mouth Disease virus that has caused heartache among cattle farmers in Ngamiland.

Officials at the Department of Veterinary Services could not be drawn to comment on the issue as they were said to be in a long day meeting at press time. BOPA
