Botswana Medical aid Society (BOMaid) group of companies has become the newest partner to sponsor the African Youth Games to the value of P2.2 million.
The sponsorship consists of P900 000, the secondment of human resource, ambulance service, emergency medical services and call centre.
The sponsorship will go towards attaining the P25 million set target to be raised by Botswana African Youth games organising committee (BAYGOC) to ensure smooth operation of the games.
To close up the gap, last month Botswana Building Society Bank (BBS) also sponsored the games to the tune of P225 000 while in March, Botswana Insurance Holdings Limited (BIHL) contributed P500 000.
Earlier this year, Mascom sponsored the games with P880 000 of which half a million was in cash while the P380 000 balance will be used to provide data, airtime and sim-packs for athletes, technical officials and volunteers.
First to come on board was home-grown retail chainstore, Choppies in September last year becoming the platinum sponsor by donating about P8.5 million to the games.
Presenting the sponsorship in Gaborone on Tuesday, May 13 BOMaid group of companies chairperson, Rebecca Mgadla said her company is the perfect health partner in which BAYGOC can safely rely on.
“We at BOMaid have no doubt that this sponsorship and our partnership will go a long way in making these games a success.”
She said the group of companies which are BOMaid, MedRescue, Alpha Access and Southview worked tirelessly to establish how best they could support this national cause.
Mgadla said they found it necessary to commit key manpower resources to BAYGOC for the duration of the games to provide expertise. She stated that she believes that sport is one area where they can impact the lives of the citizens of Botswana and hence their mission to help deliver successful games.
Receiving the sponsorship, BAYGOC chairperson, Regina Sikalesele-Vaka said health is an important element of the games adding that had it not been of BOMaid they would not reach the minimum health standard to host the games.
She said the games are a celebration of youth of Africa, their talents and Botswana’s democracy and she also invited the nation to rally behind Team Botswana comprising capable youngsters. ENDS
