Table tennis team returns from Japan

The Botswana Table Tennis Association (BTTA) senior national team arrived home on May 7 from the World Table Tennis Championships (WTTC)  in Japan.

The team won a few games in the preliminary stages but lost some as they progressed. However, the women’s team improved their international rankings, moving up to position 94 out of 220 ITTF affiliated countries in the world and position eight in Africa.

The male team is now ranked at position 109 in the world and number 11 in Africa. The national team left the country on April 26 for the world championships.

The male team comprised of Joseph Kgatlampane (captain), Thobo Matlhatsi and Kola Modisathebe while the female team was made up of Boitshwarelo Butale (captain), Tshepiso Rebatenne and Oabona Raditloko. The team coaches were Sai Maribe and Tshepo Modisane while Kudzanani Motswagole was team manager.

BTTA president Thebe Selema also arrived on May 3 after attending continental (ATTF) and international (ITTF) meetings in his capacity as Zonal Vice President of Africa Table Tennis Federation. Ends
