BONA extends helping hand

04 May 2014

The Botswana Netball Association (BONA) has donated P10 000, netball kit, vegetable garden and netball poles to Kgomodiatshaba primary school in Kgatleng district.

Handing over the donation,  Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, who is also the patron of BONA, Botlhogile Tshireletso said that it was a great pleasure to see organisations and individual members of the society assisting those in need.

She called on parents to encourage children to partake in sport for their health and physical development. She added that sport could impact positively on the children’s lives if taken seriously.

Tshireletso commended BONA for organising the event and implored other stakeholders to encourage girls to participate in netball.

She said the garden would act as an agricultural learning tool for students, adding that they have observed that primary school students were not excelling in agriculture.

For her part, president of BONA Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego said that their aim was to see netball growing in the country and getting recognition as any other sport.

Participating in netball would keepgirls busy and divert them from indulging in bad habits, said Lebotse-Sebego.

She said they depend on government funding and sponsorships from private companies, hence their effort of giving back to the community through a donation.

For his part, the area MP, Gilbert Mangole thanked the team for the donation and encouraged both the teachers and parents to work together and ensure children enroll in sporting activities to keep their bodies healthy.

He said those students who are not doing well academically, should be encouraged to take sport seriously.

Some of the companies and individuals that contributed to the company included Mascom wireless, Tsagae (PTY) LTD which is also known as All Kasi and also Major General Bakwena Oitsile. ENDS
