Spin City motor events will host the Drag City round one sports car showcase on April 26.

The event, touted as the biggest legal street race to ever take place in Botswana, will feature South African drag racing super stars and their local counterparts in a series of races that will determine the fastest of them all.

Speed freaks would have plenty to drool about, and the event is widely regarded as an east vs west affair. The Drag City showcase will start at 11 a.m and end at 6 p.m.

The event is powered by Lobatse Town Council, Mantshwabisi Fan Club and Spin City Motor Events Management. The Audi RS 3, which won the event in 2013 and is the reigning King of Lobatse, will be fighting to defend its title against tough competition from the Skyline GTR, Mitsubishi Evo and the VW Golf GTI.

“This is not child’s play. These are big cars, driven by experts and all competing to be named the fastest,” said Joseph Khengere, the organizer of the race.

There will also be food stalls and entertainment by DJ’s. Mr Griffiths will also defend his title in the motorbike category, and he will face tough competition from Bob Jones in his Honda R1.  

Khengere thanked the Lobatse Town Council for allowing them to host the event and revealed that so far they have spent P70, 000 to organize the event.

He added that Robot Auto and AG Pump sponsored the event by improving the race track.

The race will be held at the drag strip located at the ponds behind the new Lobatse stadium. Entrance is P80. ENDS
