Ping Pong tourney for BCA

The Botswana Table Tennis Association (BTTA) will host one of its biggest annual tournaments at Botswana College of Agriculture (BCA) this weekend.  The tournament will run from April 19-20.

 “This is an exciting tournament, open to any table tennis club, individual or interested party of any age and nationality, in and outside the country. Open as it is, anyone is most welcome to play under the two categories of juniors and seniors for singles, doubles and mixed doubles” said BTTA public relations officer, Lelentle Mokhupuki. 

She added that teams from BOPRISA, Botswana Integration of Sports Associations (BISA), Botswana Brigades Sports Association (BOBSA), Botswana Tertiary Students Sports Association (BOTESSA), Paralympics Association of Botswana (PASSOBO), and Special Olympics were also eligible to participate in the tournament. 

BTTA was expecting over 200 participants from across Botswana and neighboring countries such as South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Mokhupuki said the competition would be critical as they welcome the Junior National Team from Egypt. 

She further said the tournament would help prepare them for both the Africa Youth Games (Gaborone 2014) and the World Table Tennis Championships in Tokyo, Japan, which would takes place from April 26 to May 8, 2014. 

This tournament is going to use be the group round robin and single knock-out system. The ITTF rules shall apply. Gaborone Open is sponsored by Master Joinery and Aluminum, Rate One, Ribery and Vision Sports. Prizes, trophies and medals will be awarded after the tournament. Ends
