21 police officers commit suicide

Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Dikgakgamatso Seretse has told Parliament that since 2005, a total of 21 serving members of the Botswana Police Service committed suicide while ten officers attempted suicide.
“In the same period, 37 serving members of the Botswana Defence Force committed suicide and 36 attempted suicide,” he added. Minister Seretse was responding to a question in Parliament from Gaborone West North MP, Mr Robert Masitara.
Mr Masitara had asked Defence, Justice and Security minister to state the number of serving members of Botswana Defence Force and the Botswana Police, respectively, who committed and attempted suicide in each year since 2005. ENDS
