08 Apr 2014

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has no plans to construct a western bypass road in Francistown.

The ministry’s assistant minister, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said she was not aware of any danger and inconvenience caused by heavy duty vehicles and mining machinery passing through high density low cost residential areas of Maipaahela and Kgapamadi.

She further said she was not aware of any threat posed to the structural stability of houses as currently all abnormal heavy vehicles use the A3 road which passes through Thapama round about to Nata.

The MP for Francistown West, Dr Habaudi Hobona had asked the minister to state if she was aware of the danger and inconvenience caused by heavy duty vehicles and mining machinery passing through high density low cost residential areas of Maipaahela, Kgaphamadi and the threat this poses to the structural stability of houses.

She also wanted the minister to update Parliament on the construction of the Francistown western bypass road which would relieve the problem. Ends
