During the 2013/14 financial year, 569 government drivers have been trained on defensive driving course throughout the country.

Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Nonofo Molefhi informed Parliament that the target was to train 700 in that financial year, but could not be attained due to financial constraints.

He however said none of the trained drivers were from Kgalagadi District and no similar courses have been conducted in Tsabong during financial year 2013/14.

Mr Molefhi further said the ministry could not carry out its planned activities as per the 2013/14 schedule due to financial constraints and it had since been decided that the training would be conducted at the start of the 2014/15 financial year.

Kgalagadi South MP, Mr John Toto had wanted to know how many government drivers have been trained on defensive driving for the 2013/14 financial year and how many were from Kgalagadi district.

Mr Toto had also wanted the minister to state how many similar courses have been conducted in Tsabong in 2013/14 financial year and if the ministry was able to carry out its schedule as planned, if not, why. ENDS
