03 Apr 2014
In a continued effort to increase FIDE Rated chess players in the country, Botswana Chess Federation is to host a one-day FIDE Rated Blitz chess tournament on April 5 at the National Stadium.
The tournament which gives all players an opportunity to play with other blitz rated players is open to all and will be hosted in one section, where all male and female players will play against one another.
A total of 11 round will be played at 10 minutes per player, assuming a sudden death format (no time increment).
BCF director of public relations Keenese Katisenge said the blitz chess tournament is very useful in teaching chess players to think very fast and serves as an indicator of a chess player’s skills.
She said Botswana has been able to produce very good blitz chess players in the likes of Candidate Master Moakofi Notha, International Master Providence Oatlhotse, Candidate Master Thato Olebile, Woman Fide Master Kgalalelo Botlhole, Woman Candidate Master Onkemetse Francis, Gorata Leso, Success Elias, Abhiram Sasitharan and many others.
She said looking at the calibre of players that will be participating, the weekend tournament will be an interesting one where all players will strive to demonstrate their blitz skills and superiority. ENDS
