Rehabilitation works stall Martins Drift border operations
03 Apr 2014
The Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Mr Kenneth Matambo has informed Parliament that the Martin’s Drift Border Post operations will commence as soon as the South African side rehabilitation work is complete.
Answering a question in Parliament, Mr Matambo said the border post was closed on March 13 because the border post facilities on the South African side had submerged under water due to overflowing of the Limpopo River.
He said on the day of the closure of the facility as well as on subsequent days, members of the public were advised, through public and private media outlets, to use alternative border posts such as Tlokweng, Pioneer, Ramatlabama, Parrs Halt and Sikwane border posts and officers were transferred to alternative border posts to ensure that there were no delays experienced as a result to the closure.
Tswapong North MP, Mr Prince Maele had asked the minister to make statement on the closure of the Martin’s Drift Border Post and to state if there were any arrangements made thus far to facilitate movement of people and goods that would otherwise use that border post. Ends
