Association chair calls for commitment
01 Apr 2014
Francistown Local Authorities and Health Inter Sport Association (LAHISA) branch chairman, Mmoloki Stephen has urged the interim leadership to be fully committed to the activities of association so that it can achieve its mandate.
Welcoming the members of the association from the 13 local authorities which are members of LAHISA at their first general meeting in Francistown on March 29, Stephen noted that they were meeting again after their scheduled meeting which was supposed to have been held on the 22 of February this year in Serowe failed to materialise as members did not turn up.
He highlighted that failure to attend meeting indicates the reluctance of members to attend to issues pertaining to the association, adding the association was still new and it could only grow and face challenges they were facing.
Stephen pointed out that their association has not gained any recognition from authorities, among them, the Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM) as the employer. The delay, he said, was going to affect their progress because they need to earn recognition first.
He also mentioned that since their meeting last year in July they were assured by the committee that the association was going to open a bank account to enable the branches to raise funds for the running of the association, nothing has happened to date.
This, he mentioned, was also affecting progress as the association does not have funding urging them to move swiftly on this front.
The interim president, Kagiso Keitumetse said they are still waiting for DPSM’sresponse to recognise them as another sporting association and the last communication they had from them was that they were in consultation with the other stakeholders which would pave way for the signing of a memorandum of understanding.
Regarding the opening of the bank account, Keitumetse said that they will communicate with the branches after they have opened the main account so that funds raised can be deposited as they want to be transparent in their work. Ends
