Maxy to rock Ivory Coast

31 Mar 2014

Maxy Sedumedi aka Mmagauta will join other African stars at one of the biggest festivals in Africa, Femua 7, billed for Abidjan, Ivory Coast on April 6.

Maxy and her group will leave the country today, April 1. Maxy will become the first SADC representative at the festival, now in its second season. She said in an interview that she was invited to the annual music festival through a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.

UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors are celebrity advocates who use their talent or fame to spread the UNESCO ideas, especially attracting media attention. Maxy thanked God for such an opportunity noting that she would sell Botswana and promote the country’s culture through music.

She said her participation would give her opportunity to learn more about other countries’ music industry and come and share with other fellow artistes for the betterment of the local music industry. While in Abidjan, she will perform several traditional songs that depict cultures of various tribes in Botswana.

“People should not only know us as a diamond country, they should also know more about our rich traditional music and culture,” she said. The mandate of Femua 7 is to try and improve African literacy as proceeds of the festivals will be donated to a primary school in Ivory Coast.

This year’s festival is also meant to give opportunity to less privileged people in Abidjan as international artistes will perform live before them. Ends
