Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has not taken civil action against any contractors regarding incomplete projects in Ghanzi District Council, Parliament has been informed.
Responding to a question from Kgalagadi North MP, Mr Phillip Khwae , Minister Peter Siele said Kgalagadi District Council had filed two civil cases at the High Court for incomplete projects undertaken.
In both cases, he said, Kgalagadi District Council instituted civil litigation in order to recover costs and money paid to the defaulting contracts.
“In the first case, council is suing for P90 396.35 on a project for the electrification of primary schools in the Bokspits, Rapplespan, Vaalhoek and Struizendam (BORAVAST). In the second case, council is suing for P332 750.00 on a project for the installation of solar panels at Ngwatle School,” he said.
Mr Khwae had asked the minister to state the number of civil cases levelled against contractors regarding incomplete projects at Kgalagadi and Ghanzi District Councils that were before the courts of law and the associated costs. ENDS
