Financial constraints affect implementation
27 Mar 2014
Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has not been able to fully implement the Gaborone storm water master plan due to financial constraints.
Assistant Minister Botlogile Tshireletso said in Parliament that she was aware of the problem of flooding of internal roads in Bophirima and Morula Wards in Gaborone West South constituency during the rainy season.
She thus said Gaborone City Council had planned to construct approximately 1.2 km of storm water drainage in Phase IV using the 2014/15 recurrent budget.
Ms Tshireletso also said the Ipelegeng programme engaged workers to clear rubble and de-silt drains but the de-silting activities were only effective after the rainy season, hence council will engage Ipelegeng workers during that period to de-silt the drains.
Gaborone West South MP, Mr Botsalo Ntuane had asked if the minister was aware that internal roads in the said wards in Gaborone West South constituency became flooded and impassable during the rainy season.
Mr Ntuane had also wanted to know when storm water drainage systems in these wards would be fully constructed and whether trenches were cleared of rubble and unblocked after the rainy season. Ends
