Over P1 million paid as compensation
27 Mar 2014
Over P1 million has been paid as compensation for people paving way for construction of the deferred Mandunyane/Mathangwane Road, the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso has said.
She said the delay in construction of the road would not lead to double compensation as there were records in place with the names of property owners and amounts compensated for the affected properties.
The assistant minister said the affected property owners should not be using their properties as they should have moved as soon as they had been paid their compensation.
She said this was to avoid a situation where property owners made further improvements to their property and later made a second claim for compensation at the time that the project was commenced.
Ms Tshireletso was responding to a question from Tonota North MP, Mr Fidelis Molao who wanted to know the amount paid as compensation to people who were supposed to relocate for construction of the road.
Mr Molao also asked if the delay in commencing construction will not lead to government having to pay double compensation when construction starts because no one has relocated. He further asked if such people can use their properties while awaiting the commencement of the project. Ends
