Francistown college enrolment capacity 1 500

26 Mar 2014

Parliament has been informed that the total capacity for enrolment at Francistown College of Technical and Vocational Education (FCTVE) is 1 500.

Responding to a question from the MP for Francistown West, Dr Habaudi Hobona, the Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Patrick Masimolole said so far the number of students enrolled for the current academic year was 928 students.

He said the number was expected to increase to 1 114 by term three indicating that the enrolment number would not have been reached for the full establishment for the college because there was shortage of qualified lectures in the fields of mechanical and electrical engineering, health and social care, beauty therapy and applied laboratory science.

The minister explained that in order to close this gap, his ministry had entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoU) with the government of Zimbabwe and Chamber of Mines.

Zimbabwe MoU served to facilitate the process of recruiting lectures in the scare areas within the TVET section, while chamber of mines participation offers artisan programmes at the institution.

Dr Hubona had wanted to know the total capacity for students enrolment at the FCTVE and the number of students enrolled for the current financial year. Ends
