Lobatse Kanye in comfortable win
25 Mar 2014
The Lobatse/Kanye team produced a breathtaking performance to claim a nine wickets victory over Gaborone 2 in the National T20 cricket tournament on March 23.
The comfortable victory at the Botswana Cricket Association Oval 1 was the first match for the Lobatse/ Kanye team since the tournament commenced on March 15.
Gaborone 2 batted first, but good bowling by their opponents limited them to just 117 runs for six wickets after 20 overs. They got off to a horrible start as they managed a single run in their first over, before losing four wickets in quick succession between the second and fifth overs.
Innocent Chando, James Moses, Selvam Sathasivam, and Ifham Mohd were the men who excited the match without making significant contribution to their team’s scoring sheet.
Akhlaq Raja with 25 runs and Elvis Chipambu with 24 were their team’s highest run’s scorers on the day, but their team was struggling to score runs and left their opponents with a simple target of 118 runs to win the match.
Lobatse/ Kanye started their chase positively as they reeled off numerous boundaries without losing wickets. Midway through their innings, they had already reached the 100 runs point, needing around 20 runs from over 50 balls to win the match.
Their course was helped by poor fielding performance by their opponents. They dully wrapped up victory after making 118 runs for 1 wicket in 13.2 overs to clinch a 9 wickets victory.
Lobatse/ Kanye have accumulated two points from their first match and are looking good in the battle for a top two finish in the southern region. Ends
