Otriches sneak one past Mapantsula
25 Mar 2014
Orapa United aka Ostriches won their encounter against Extension Gunners by a goal to nil in a duel which was played at Orapa on March 22.
The encounter, which had no flair saw the former Extention Gunners and BMC forward, Hendrick Moyo put his team in front late in the second half.
Moyo, who was allowed ample space on the left hand side from the start of the game, was a thorn on Gunners defence from on set and it did not come as a surprise when he finally eluded the well experienced rear guard of Finkie Mothibi and Desire Bafana to put his team in front.
Though Gunners had an upper hand in the first half thanks to Kelelelo Kgosimore’s runs on the right they did not have the killer’s instincts and their situation was worsened by the poor showing from midfield where there was no link between Tshepho Molefhe and Mosimanegape Ntwaetsile.
In the second half, Ostriches took advantage of that and their players were always first on the ball on many occasions. Samuel Phiri and Rodney Buka had a field day in the middle of the park and their hard work finally paid off when they combined well with Moyo who made no mistake as he banged the net from a very tight angle, putting it far from the keeper’s reach.
The match was characterised by poor passing of the ball from both sides as they could barely string together at least four passes each. The goalkeepers were never tested save for Pako Modikwa’s diving header in the first half but the opponent’s keeper made sure that he kept his team in the match.
In the end it was Ostriches who emerged victorious, a much needed win as they tried to avoid the relegation axe. The next game for the Ostriches would be an away encounter against Miscellaneous who too are on the war path of avoiding relegation while Extension Gunners will play hosts to BDF XI who want to clinch the league title.
