Nurses not on same scale - Seakgosing

24 Mar 2014

Nurses with basic nursing qualification as well as those with diplomas, post basic courses and degrees are not all on the same scale, Parliament has been told.

This was said by the Minister of Health, Dr John Seakgosing when answering a question in Parliament.

He said the entry point for those with diplomas differed from those with degrees and they progressed at different levels depending on the performance and availability of posts. Dr seakgosing said those with degrees could progress up to D1 level while those with diplomas going up to D3 level.

All nurses with either qualification had been following the same schemes of service, which did not differentiate on the basis of qualifications, he said.

He said his ministry was reviewing the schemes of service for nurses to take into consideration all nursing specialties and progress according to the professional achievement and additional skills acquired.

Member of Parliament for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked whether the minister was aware that nurses with basic nursing qualification as well as those with diplomas, post basic courses and degrees were all on the same scale.

Mr Mmolotsi had also wanted to know why there was no differentiation based on qualification and when would the Minister consider correcting the anomaly. Ends
