24 Mar 2014
The generator at Qangwa is not a back-up generator but the sole provider for power in Qangwa clinic, Parliament has been informed.
The Assistant Minister of Health Dr Gloria Somolekae said they were aware that the generator had not been working since August last year and that back-up generator for Nokaneng was not yet connected. Dr Somolekae told the house that Qangwa generator had been attended to and had been functioning for over two weeks now.
During that period, she added, cadac lamps, which were kept for emergencies, were used. Regarding Nokaneng Clinic, the assistant minister said plans were underway to connect it to main power supply for back-up and that quotations from suppliers had been requested.
The minister was responding to a question asked by the Member of Parliament for Ngamiland, Mr Taolo Habano who had asked whether the minister was aware that the back-up generators at Nokaneng and Qangwa clinics respectively had not been working for than six months.
The legislator also wanted the minister to state her future plans to address the situation. Ends
