Parliament approves transport communications budget
24 Mar 2014
Parliament has approved a budget of P3 828 844 730 for the Ministry of Transport and Communications for the financial year 2014/15.
Responding to MPs debates on the proposed budget, Minister Nonofo Molefhi said he was aware of the backlog of maintenance of roads. He said most roads required reconstruction as they had outlived their design life.
Mr Molefhi said the ministry did not have a plan for maintenance of major roads and that due to budget ceilings, the ministry could only afford to do roads resurfacing.
He further told MPs that fuel shortage at the Central Transport Organisation emanated from late payment by departments. He said efforts were being made to engage private fuel servicing points to minimise long distances to fetch fuel at CTOs. ends
