Orphans need love care

14 Feb 2013

Kgosi Ntisetsang Nsala of Selolwane Ward in Tutume has urged people to show love and care to orphans.

He said in an interview that he was worried about the way orphans were being raised in his village.

He said people should know that orphans just like any other child, needed love and care adding that guardians must make sure the orphans were raised in a safe environment, where they could be cared for and protected so that they would not feel the pain of having lost their loved ones.

“I am aware that resources are limited in most households in the village, but we have to do our best to ensure that they get all the basic needs required for them to grow up and become independent individuals,” he said.

Kgosi Nsala added that orphans who were not given love and care ended up on the streets while some became criminals.

He said children should not be exposed to any form of abuse, adding that orphans were often forced to work at an early age to raise money for food while  guardians enjoyed their food baskets from government.

Furthermore, he said social workers should work hand-in-hand with him to ensure the safety of the orphans.

He said a one on one interview with the orphans should be conducted every year to get response on their upbringing, adding that people should report any disturbing issues concerning the orphans. ENDS
