House allocation based on officer's preference
24 Mar 2014
The Ministry of Lands and Housing allocates housing to public officers including married ones based on the individual officer’s choice.
Minister Lebonaamang Mokalake said when civil servants applied for accommodation, they indicated the type of houses they wanted.
The minister said in some areas there were instances where officers might be upgraded depending on the availability of pool houses. However, Mr Mokalake said in Gaborone this was not always possible due to acute shortage of accommodation for public officers.
The MP for Gaborone West South, Mr Botsalo Ntuane had asked the minister to state why some married civil servants with large families had been transferred to Gaborone and allocated low cost houses instead of being allocated houses with adequate space. Ends
