Service provision is key

Francistown City Council Mayor Mr James Kgalajwe has called on his counterparts as well as the employees of the city council to up their game in servicing the community of the city.
Speaking at the Mayor’s Ball dinner on Friday, December 6 in Francistown, the mayor said it is important for service providers to join hands together and work as a unit to service the people noting that provision of services should be the key principles to those mandated to do the work based on the service standards.
“We have to revert back to our service standards in order to improve the quality of life for our people,” he stated.
He however noted that alone they cannot do the proper expected work to meet public demands and as such they need to engage with other stakeholders and share ideas on how best they can service the city to the expected standards.
Because with the cooperation of their stakeholders improved service standards will add to the development of the city which at this stage needs a lot of work in terms of development and attracting investors who will come up with more developments.
He nonetheless highlighted that the city council was still challenged with waste management services which are still far behind in terms of standards. He stated that they still receive numerous complaints from the public with regard to poor garbage collection and this is despite their promise to the community of the city that they will improve the situation by engaging the private sector to help clean the city.
In addition, he also mentioned that storm water drainage was still a challenge which needs to be addressed fully particularly in these times of the rainy season. Meanwhile, the acting deputy town clerk, Mr Reginald Mudungo appealed to the community of Francistown to drive their stray cattle out of the city centre noting that roaming cattle are adding to the untidiness of the city centre.
He noted that although there is drought in the country that should not act as an excuse to have cattle taken to graze in the city because such an arrangement will disadvantage the city when investors make their assessments to make their way into bringing developments. ENDS
