Malwelwe water project almost complete

10 Dec 2013

Happiness will soon be restored among faces of Bakwena of Molepolole and Thamaga village following the long awaited completion of the P53million Malwelwe Water Project by Water Utilities Cooperation (WUC) in the next two weeks.

Briefing a full meeting of the Kweneng District Council  Ms Boitumelo Kgaodi, the station manager for WUC in Molepolole, pressed optimism that the completion of the eight months water project will help augment the prevailed water situation in the two villages.

The project, as Ms Kgaodi highlighted included equipping and connection of six boreholes at Malwelwe and Suping areas was well as the construction of a 35kilometre pipeline from the Malwelwe booster station to Gaotlhobogwe treatment plant, will help bring the water situations to normal.

She said the project was one of the six emergency projects that the corporation was planning to undertake in the district.Ms Kgaodi said this would help arrest the water problem hit Molepolole and had affected operations of large institutions such as Scottish Livingstone Hospital, Institute of Health Sciences, clinics in the village, the Rural Administration Centre, business operations as well as domestic usage.

However, Ms Kgaodi could not be drawn into further discussing the project status with the news media, saying they are working around the clock to insure restoring the situation and that their focus was mainly on action rather than to convince people with media reports. She however promised to share information with journalists at the right time.

Councillors had complained about persistent water crisis that has seriously affected most areas in the district. Commenting on the question raised by Mmankgodi South’s Cllr Ofentse Mafoko regarding delays in yard connection for Mmankgodi residents, Kgaodi said they were working towards completing the list of those they inherited from the previous water providers and will not create any new list before they modalities could be worked out.

Meanwhile, Molepolole Youth Officer, Ms Motlatsi Madisa, has disputed allegations by Cllr Letlhogile Masiele of Mankgwenyane to the effect that only one youth in Molepolole North constituency had so far benefited from the P2million Youth Development Fund (YDF) with P100 000. Ms Madisa said her office funded 13 projects in the area at the total costs of P1.3million contrary to what Cllr Masiele knew. ENDS
